When I was a kid I used to love a good pair of cowboy boots. I mean, what good self respecting boy didn’t? Right? Of course, the first thing you need to do when you get a good pair of cowboy boots, is go out in the back yard and kick the concrete wall a couple hundred times to get them good and broke in. I was a kid you know? I didn’t have the time, or patience to let them break in on their own. The only drawback to this of course was that after this process was done, and you got them broke in just right, not only were they broke in, but it was already almost time for another pair of boots. I don’t know why my mom got so mad when I did that, I was a kid and was going to grow out of them in a week anyway.
Well, what got me thinking about this is; being a makeshift writer of sorts I run into writers block, like everybody does at some point or other. So I got to thinking about the cowboy boots and wondered if writers block might be a good thing. Because, like the boots, after banging your head against a concrete wall a couple hundred times it should be good and broke in right? Of course like the boots, once you finally get it broke in the way you like it, it’s just about time to get a new head. I’m not sure what kind of head I would get the second time around, but it would have to be one that I liked looking at in the mirror. Because let’s face it, I’m going to have to look at it every day right? I suppose it should contain the power of thought as well, because that’s good too.
